"Kumo no Kaidan" is a pleasant surprise! I thought it would be very boring but I actually found myself drawn into the drama especially when Saburo was doing operation on Akiko! I just watched the 2nd episode and there are many suspensful scenes, such as when Akiko’s dad visit Mikoto Island and ask about the surgery and recovery. The 3 main actor/actresses also did a great job. I am looking forward to episode 3!
About whether patients need to have general anesthestic or regional anesthetic during surgery, it depends on the surgery as putting patients into ‘sleep’ has it’s own risk. The type of surgery, complications, etc; plus some patients have their own conditions that makes anesthesia more risky. There’s no one definitely answer and has to be considered on a case by case basis.
